Kitchen/Living Room Remodeling Project - E Providence, RI

This house was built in 1962 the year I was born, and had never been remodeled. When deciding to update their kitchen and living room (using photos from a Martha Stewart magazine) daily communication was a must to create their vision in an older home. First I started to enlarge the window openings and installed Anderson casement windows to add light and ventilation. Next granite countertops were laid onto sleek white cabinets, new appliances and stylish light fixtures along with a diagonally laid tile floor finished the remodel and would have made even Martha happy.

Now onto the living room . . .

The existing fireplace had a 70's white faux brick front that the owner wanted to get rid of in order to create a more elegant formal look. After stripping the brick, and then sheetrocking the wall I created a "old world" mantel and then laid out the back wall to anchor the fireplace visually in the room. The white alkyd primer and two coats of white finish paint gave a satin smooth look that made you want to pull up a chair and relax.
